Claudia Casa is part of a set of converted farm buildings in rural Tuscany. To give you an idea just how rural, the nearest shops are a 30-minute walk away.
The villa itself is a really olde worlde affair. The layout is a bit topsy-turvy – you’ll find the living area on the ground floor. It’s an open-plan set-up with the lounge, dining room and kitchen all rolled into one. With chunky wooden furniture throughout, it’s got a really rustic feel. Just off the living area, you’ll find a terrace and a little lawn with tables and chairs set under a straw-thatched canopy.
As for the bedrooms, there are two doubles here. The first is upstairs and comes with a shower room just next door, the second one, meanwhile, is downstairs. It’s been kitted out in a traditional style, so expect tiled floors, beamed ceilings and wall lamps. Plus, it comes with arched doors that open out onto a lower-level patio.
Lastly, there’s the swimming pool. It’s shared with 11 other apartments so it’s bigger than your average villa pool. It’s set in gardens about a minute’s walk from this house.

Tucked away up a steep track, Casa delle Antiche Rose has quite a few surprises up its sleeve. Handsome but relatively plain when seen from the front, at the back it’s a mass of greenery.
Inside, it’s very modern and chic with lots of pink, green and blue furnishings and bright walls. Many of them are frescoed or decorated with paintings. The living and dining area is large and airy, with cool tiled floors and big picture windows, and the kitchen – conveniently modern and well equipped – is a good size, too. Pretty and full of character, this converted watermill is tucked away in a green valley below the picturesque village of Coreglia Antelminelli. It’s only about two kilometres from the village, but feels well off the beaten track.
Well-tended gardens and tall trees lead down to the brook that once gave life to the mill. And it’s in this leafy glade you’ll find the private swimming pool, bordered in natural stone. The peaceful grounds are perfect for outdoor living with a terrace in the gardens and another by the house.
Inside, the renovation work is just as tasteful. Features like the ancient wooden doorway, heavy wooden beams and terracotta floors have been restored to their former glory, while the old grinding stones are displayed in the garden. There’s a large fireplace in the comfortable living and dining room – a welcome feature in spring and autumn, and the spacious kitchen is well equipped.
Up on the first floor, accessed by an open spiral stairway, are all four bedrooms – two doubles or twins and two singles. One of the single bedrooms has a floor hatch to a secondary access via a tiny spiral stairway – it’s great fun for older children but unsuitable for toddlers.

This old converted stone farmhouse is literally in the middle of nowhere - and therein lies its charm. Surrounded by Tuscan countryside and set in gardens dotted with trees and flowers, it’s perfect for a rural escape.
